Even if they are full, babies will constantly ask to be fed every now and then. For this reason, some mothers find it very difficult to know when to continue or stop feeding.

However, this is one trait that all new mothers must develop as overfeeding your babies can lead to a slew of problems. So if you need a hand, here are some of the most common symptoms of baby overfeeding that you should look out for in your children.

One of the most obvious symptoms of overfeeding a baby is an unusually frequent bowel movement. Babies 1 month of age or older usually remove their bowels twice a day. Those who do it more frequently than that may be overdoing it. Some children who are overweight can pass six or more stools a day. Apart from that, green, watery, and explosive stools are also very common signs of overfeeding.

Naturally, a child who is overfed tends to gain weight. Normally, children can gain about 1 pound of body weight per week. Gaining weight afterward can be a possible sign of overfeeding. So be aware of this every time you have a routine doctor’s check-up. Or better yet, make it a habit to monitor your child’s weight at home as often as possible.

Breastmilk supply can also be used as a barometer for whether or not a baby is overfeeding. Mothers who have too much milk are more likely to over feed their babies. These mothers usually have a very strong expulsion reflex and may produce more milk than normal. This can cause the baby to bloat and swallow air, which can eventually lead to stomach pain and colic. A good way to assess excessive milk production is to pump your milk with a breast pump. However, the type of breast pump used and the time of day of milk intake can greatly affect the volume extracted.

Frequent crying and bad mood are also common symptoms of overfeeding the baby. An overfed baby is often grumpy and steadily gaining weight in a very short period of time. They are also very nervous and may have trouble sleeping. Babies usually like to be breastfed by their mothers. However, overfeeding can be very upsetting to infants. So be very attentive to your baby’s position while feeding. If you continue to ignore these symptoms of overfeeding, your baby may spend less time feeding and will only do so when he becomes very hungry. Babies who reach this stage may become seriously dehydrated and may lose a lot of weight. As a result, mothers may be forced to wean their babies at a very early age.

One of the best ways to prevent your baby from overfeeding is to simply reduce your milk supply. However, it is very important to do this gradually. You can start feeding your baby on only one breast per feeding session.

Feeding an infant with only one breast at each feeding gives him more hindmilk. India’s milk is the last milk that comes out of the mother’s breast, which is very high in fat and calories. Reducing the amount of milk at each feeding session also prevents stomach bloating and colic. In this way, the milk passes through the baby’s digestive system at a regular speed and most of the nutrients are absorbed into the body.

If the above method does not work, you can reduce the feeding amounts further. No matter how often your baby asks for a feed, you should only feed your baby once every three hours. But first, make sure your child has been diagnosed by a certified medical professional as an overweight and overfeeding child before adapting this type of routine.

It is completely normal for newborn babies to breastfeed all the time.
