Gear Update at PhotographsbyPeter.com.

It is with regret that I announce the Leica 35 Summilux FLE has decided to leave PhotographsbyPeter.com to pursue other projects.   This change will be effective August 2, 2015.

Please join me in recognizing the 35/1.4 FLE for its valuable contributions to PhotographsbyPeter.com.

In its time on this site, the Leica 35 Summilux FLE made a positive difference with its image rendering (though it sometimes struck viewers as a little too bold and busy).  It is therefore with warmest personal regards that I wish this lens every success in its endeavours with another photographer.

Subsequent to this change and as I assemble replacement gear, the Leica 50 Summilux ASPH will take on an expanded role.  However — as always — its use will be restricted to within approximately 200 feet of my house.

Please therefore join me in wishing the 50 Summilux ASPH much success in its new and expanded role.

Sincerely,

—Peter.

  1. Evening Peter. Sorry to hear the FLE has been sent away. As long as I’ve been following you I’m surprised you kept the 35mm focal length lens for so long as I see you as a 50mm photographer. Having said that, I too agree with those that say the FLE can sometimes render in a harsh manner.

If you plan on aquiring another 35 may I suggest, if you haven’t already, the pre-FLE ASPH. Its become my favorite lens. However, my perfect 35 lens would be the crispness this lens renders at f1.4 that is in focus and combine that with the out of focus rendering the Mandler 35 Lux pre-ASPH creates.

I couldn’t agree more with Duane. The 35mm Lux asph pre fle renders beautifully and although its bokeh may not rival the pre asph Lux, it certainly ranks right up there in its in OOF rendition.

50 all the way Peter….:-) Biggest regret in photography terms was selling my 50 lux ASPH. It’ll be back one day.

I have just placed a deposit on a mint Hasselblad 501CM….

Not parting ways with my Mamiya 7 kit just yet. The film journey continues.

Just want to see how things go with the 501 first and re-assess!

As usual looking forward to more of those 50mm FL images you create.

It will serve as a fine entry in that 35 FLE’s CV.

    Brilliant!

@ Andy, You won’t regret buying the Hasselblad. I’ve had a Hasselblad 500CM for a while now and really enjoy using it. The Leica’s are usually the cameras I’ll pick up first, but when the circumstances are right, I love nothing more than to pull out the Hasselblad. Feels very Leica like in terms of build quality and precision. A joy to use!
